  1. More than one Dropbox account

I suggest to make it possible to connect PocketBib to more than one Dropbox account.
I have, and use, more than one account, and would like to be able to connect to all of them.

    • Support for ownCloud synchronization

The ownCloud project recently released iOS libraries for synchronization support at GitHub:

      https://github.com/owncloud/ios-library

I did not take a look at it but it seems to be a good starting point for integration of file synchronization with ownCloud. The library and all of its dependencies are published under the terms of the MIT license, thus allowed to be used in a commercial product.

An alternative file syncronization would be nice feature for PocketBib and official iOS libraries may lower the entry point for ownCloud.

      • Use the library's location rather than Dropbox root folder for relative paths to linked files

I mirror my bibdesk library and PDF repository on Dropbox. I use auto file with bibdesk to put files in my preferred location in a multi-level folder hierarchy, which is also replicated on Dropbox. I can check dropbox and see that my PDFs are in the correct location relative to my .bib file . But pocketbib can't find any of them.

When I go to locate the missing file, PB begins the search from the Dropbox root, rather than the folder where my bib file is located. It seems that this is also how it is handling linked files in…

          Hi Derick,

PocketBib searches for your files both relative to the root of dropbox and relative to the root of your .bib file. If both fail, and you manually locate a single PDF it works out the relationship between the paths in your .bib file and those in Dropbox and uses that when searching for all subsequent files. So there isn’t a need to specify the base location for searching in PocketBib.

It sounds like the problem is that PocketBib isn’t displaying the full path to help you locate where the PDF is when manually locating the file. Please send an email to pocketbib@grahamdennis.me if you need further assistance.

          Regards,
          Graham

What do you mean by supplementary information? These are usually just additional PDFs. PocketBib supports multiple linked files for a given article, so this should be possible already.

            • Remember via preference the folder to be used as starting point to look for pdf's

I am using SugarSync and GoodReader to annotate pdf's. I am using PocketBib to read my standard BibDesk bib-file (via symbolic link in the DropBox). Sometimes, when I do not need to annotate, then PocketBib is good enough. But then I need to tell PocketBib each time where my pdf's are stored (SugarSync). Quite cumbersome and tedious process to go through all those hierarchies and it is each time the same. I would like to be able to tell PocketBib via preference setting, e.g. the one used for SugarSync services, which folder is my pdf repository and ought to be…

              • Access PDFs on local (wifi) computer

It is great to see the recent update with more ways to access the linked PDF files. I have one more request.

Allow files to be stored in a folder structure on a local computer, and PocketBib accesses them there. This is similar to GoodReader supporting SFTP sync access. This way if we have more PDFs than can fit in DropBox (or on a small old iPad) we can still read them all when we are near our computer (or far away, if the computer has a fixed or known IP address).

You can do this in PocketBib 1.5. Just install a WebDAV server on your computer and add it to PocketBib. Then try to view one of your PDFs that isn’t in Dropbox, and then locate it within the WebDAV server.

Another solution that will work away from your computer is if you store the rest of your PDFs in Google Drive or SugarSync (or a remotely accessible WebDAV server). PocketBib can search across multiple storage services to find PDFs.

                • Local usage without Dropbox

As I bought it, I didn't recognize that Dropbox is essential.
I would like a feature to use a local database on the ipad, which is copied on the iPad over USB. I edit my entries with jabref and would like to our a copy on the iPad

                  • Copy cite command

I think an easy-yet-awesome idea for the software would be a "copy cite command" button which would give you a pre formatted:

                    \cite{citekey}

Command in the clipboard for pasting into a document.

You can already copy the cite key by either tapping-and-holding on the cite key in the article details view header, or using the action button at the bottom of the article details view.

                    • Add DOI link

It would be really awesome to have a DOI link button near the PDF link, that would open the DOI address in a browser. The link can be either in the library listing (if there's space), or in the individual entry.

Also, having the ability to add a user-definable proxy URL to this link would be a huge bonus, given that most academics access articles through their libraries proxy service.

For example, the link format would look like this: dx.doi.org.userproxy.institution.edu/$BIBTEX_DOI_FIELD$

Where "userproxy.institution.edu" is an optional user-definable URL add-on which could be set in the app and would be the same…

                        • Let PocketBib handle x-bdsk:// URLs

On the Mac, BibDesk serves as my single point of entry to my library. From my notes, I reference articles using BibDesk links in the format x-bdsk://CITEKEY. Since I sync notes with my iPad, it would be great if those links were functional on the iPad as well. Would it be possible to add a URL handler to PocketBib which responds to x-bdsk:// URLs by displaying the corresponding entry if it exists?

It would be good to be able to navigate my library by the 'keywords' field in my BibTeX database.
